[WENATCHEE, WASHINGTON, NOVEMBER 15, 2024]

OFFICIAL NOTICE TO WASHINGTON APPLE GROWERS AND DEALERS

Pursuant to RCW 15.24 and under the direction of the Washington State Director of Agriculture, notice is hereby given that a special meeting of apple growers, dealers and shippers will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. at the Yakima Convention Center, 10 North 8th Street, Yakima WA, 98901 in conjunction with the Washington State Tree Fruit Association’s annual meeting.  The special meeting will convene to hear nominations of candidates for three open grower positions and two open dealer positions of the Washington Apple Commission.  The open positions each have a three-year term, commencing March 1, 2025.  Nominations may be made orally at the meeting.

Nominations may also be made within five days after the meeting by written petition either mailed or emailed to the Washington Apple Commission and signed by not less than five voting apple growers or dealers residing within the district, postmarked no later than December 16, 2024.

All nominators must be eligible growers or dealers in the same district of the person being nominated. To nominate a grower, you must be a grower.  To nominate a dealer, you must be a dealer.  Nominations must include the name, address, and district of the nominator, as well as the name, address, and district of the person being nominated.

Positions open for nominations are:

  • Position 3, Grower District 1–the area includes the counties of Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan.  This position is currently held by Dave Robison of Chelan, who is not seeking re-election.

  • Position 7, Grower District 2–the area includes the counties of Kittitas, Yakima, Benton and Franklin.  This position is currently held by Michael Roche of Yakima who is not seeking re-election.

  • Position 9, Grower District 3–includes all the counties in the state not included in the first and second districts.  This position is currently held by West Mathison of Wenatchee, who is seeking re-election.

  • Position 11, Dealer District 1–the area includes the counties of Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan.  This position is currently held by Jorge Sanchez of Wenatchee, who is seeking re-election.

  • Position 13, Dealer District 2–the area includes the counties of Kittitas, Yakima, Benton and Franklin.  This position is currently held by Miles Kohl of Yakima, who is seeking re-election.

If more than one nomination is received for a position, an advisory vote will be conducted by mail immediately following the nomination period. Final appointments will be made by the Director of Agriculture.
